World Oceans Day

11 / 06 / 2019

As the world ocean is the principal component of Earth’s hydrosphere, it is integral to life and influences climate and weather patterns. The World Ocean is the habitat of 230.000 known species, but because much of it is unexplored, the number of species that exist in the ocean is much larger. Today Plastic accumulating in our oceans and on our beaches has become a global problem. At current rates plastic is expected to outweigh all the fish in the sea by 2050. So let’s start today to avoid plastic waste, every little step can make a difference.

In cooperation with gaia I designed a ocean pattern celebrating World Oceans Day, gaia produces sustainable foodwraps, a very good alternative to cling film, made from plastic. All products by gaia are handmade in Hamburg.

Congratulations Hedwig Kohn! I’m honored and happy, that I was asked by google, to create the todays doodle, celebrating the 132nd birthday of the german physicist Hedwig Kohn. She was one of only three women to obtain habilitation in physics before World War II. Because of her jewish origin, she was forced to leave Germany during the Nazi regime and continued teaching after ultimately settling in the United States.
